Florida at the World Dairy Expo

Five of our UF Dairy Science Club members had the opportunity to attend the 2021 World Dairy Expo held in Madison, Wisconsin. On Monday, September 30, 2021, the club members (Megan Lee, Maria Ortiz Perez, Valerie Lantigua, Aurelia Carles, and Camryn Farquhar) arrived at the Expo and stayed until Friday, October 1, 2021. During their time at the Expo, the students represented and tabled for the UF Animal Sciences Department and the Florida International Dairy Academy (FIDA), a new online extension education program. While tabling, the club had the chance to share their personal experiences as students at the University of Florida with other students, businesses, and community members from across the nation. Our students spent the week exploring the Expo and discussing technological advancements, employment opportunities, and professional development with industry leaders. Each day, our members attended various cattle shows and sessions that provided insight into dairy management and evaluation. Megan Lee, an animal sciences major, explained that her favorite experience was interacting with industry professionals and dairy producers from across the world. Lee stated, “It was great to see all of the advancements and tools dairy producers are utilizing to provide the best possible care to their herds.” Overall, our members had a great time and are already looking forward to next year’s Expo! Thank you to our advisors Dr. Corwin Nelson and Dr. Albert DeVries, for attending the Expo with our team! We would also like to thank the Animal Sciences Department for allowing us to participate in the Expo. We are so grateful to be a part of this department! Go Gators!
